Fahress — Arabic Type Design Archive

Fahress is a digital initiative dedicated to the archiving and classification of Arabic type designers, foundries, and typefaces. The project aims to build a comprehensive and reliable database that serves as a primary reference for everyone working in, or interested in, the field of Arabic type design.

The name "Fahress" was deliberately chosen for its direct association with indexing and archiving—the essence of the project. Fahress seeks to bring order to the current chaos within the Arabic type market, which has been heavily affected by font piracy and unregulated distribution, by transforming the search for Arabic typefaces into a clear, intelligent, and safe experience.

Project Objectives

• Supporting and empowering the Arabic type design community by highlighting designers' work and providing a professional, authoritative platform to showcase it.

• Structuring Arabic typefaces within a clear information architecture, enabling efficient browsing, comparison, and precise search functionality.

• Facilitating access for Arabic users, advertising agencies, and publishing houses to appropriate typefaces based on their technical and visual requirements.

• Providing a secure and trustworthy Arabic reference for typeface discovery, away from random, unlicensed, and unreliable sources.
