Its name—Ghorab, meaning "crow" in Arabic—comes from the Iraqi proverb: "غراب يقول لغراب وجهك أسود" ("A crow says to a crow: Your face is black"), a cultural parallel to the English idiom, "The pot calling the kettle black."
